Our recent trip to Mountain Lake was featured on the Presidio Trust’s blog (http://www.presidio.gov/blog). The post seems to have scrolled off their blog, so I’ll reproduce it here:

I was at this event, representing SSU. (As a matter of fact, that’s my son at the far left of the first photo, at the booth he and I were manning). Super cool!

Thanks for everything Wendy!
"Conservation Biology" student
Professor St.John is one of my favorite professors so far at SSU. This is the 2nd semester I have had her as my professor. She is so understanding inside and out of class and is always encouraging students to come to her office hours. She connects with her students not only through the curriculum but also personally. She is so interesting to listen to and her passion for teaching and protecting the environment is contagious. I have found no weak aspects in her teaching nor in the course.

WONDERFUL teacher. I have had this professor since my freshman year of college and I am currently a junior. She always strives to have her students do the absolute best. Very patient and is willing to dedicate all of her time to ensure that you understand the material. Definitely helped me pass and understand the course better.
"Ecology" student
I loved Professor St. John! She made the class fun to the point that I actually was excited to go to class. I really enjoyed the material and the way she presented it.
"Introduction to Biology" student
I am literally obsessed with this professor!! I have never before had a professor that genuinely wants every single one of her students to succeed. She creates such a fun and easy-going classroom environment and does an incredible job of making everyone feel comfortable in asking questions without feeling stupid. She is willing to admit her mistakes but has so much knowledge of all topics she goes over and when a question arises even if she doesn’t have an immediate answer she will work to figure it out. She gives enough assignments that if you do poorly on one or on tests its not the end of the world and the test corrections aren’t just nice for that extra grade boost but it gives you the opportunity to actually learn from your mistakes. This is genuinely the first time in a GE course that I have felt like I have learned information that I will retain. We NEED more teachers like Wendy St. John!! Wendy St. John for president!!
"Global Environmental Issues" student

Sonoma State and the Biology department are so lucky to have Wendy St. John on their bill. She is so full of zest for not only Biology, but for life! And it is so infectious! More often than not did I find myself cracking up at Wendy’s loony demeanor and I wish more people could be like this! Personally, I am not a science girl and did not thrive in this biology curriculum. But, it was so much greater with Wendy as my teacher. Love her. All the raises to her!!!

I have not seen another professor that goes out of their way to help and guide students through absolutely anything in classes and in life. "Evolution and Ecology" student
Thanks for all the support and being a cheerleader through this transition!
"Professional Preparation" student
I took this class thinking it was just going to fulfill a GE but I actually really liked it. I may even want to pursue taking a different course related to this field. It was really eye opening to see how the world is affected by us and how we do things, such as litter, drive our gas-filled cars, and how we just keep buying plastic reusable bags and then throwing them out instead of REUSING them, like we should. Anyways Wendy St. John was very passionate about this subject which made it more easier to learn about and focus on for lecture. Overall, I think this class was super fun and I am glad I went out on a whim and took this in the first place.
"Global Environmental Issues" student
I think the course was a very well rounded class. I learned a lot and it was a joy to go to. It wasn’t a miserable class at all and Wendy is amazing she is great and easy to talk to and isn’t intimidating when it comes to asking any questions on homework assignments. Cool class and teacher is all I can say.
"Introduction to Biology" student
Wendy is a nut, but she’s a great teacher. Class is always fun and she is always engaging with students no matter what. She always is happy to be able to come to school and teach us.

Wendy St. John is no doubt one of the best professors I’ve had at Sonoma State. Not only is she always prepared for class, she provides ample opportunities for students to ask questions, explore new ideas, and will take the time to explain ideas that are hard to understand. Thank you so much Professor St. John for a wonderful semester!

"Introduction to Biology" student
Sonoma State and the Biology department are so lucky to have Wendy St. John on their bill. She is so full of zest for not only Biology, but for life! And it is so infectious! More often than not did I find myself cracking up at Wendy’s loony demeanor and I wish more people could be like this! Personally, I am not a science girl and did not thrive in this biology curriculum. But, it was so much greater with Wendy as my teacher. Love her. All the raises to her!!!

Professor St. John is probably my favorite professor. I look forward to going to class because of her. She is the nicest, most understanding professor I have had. The way she displays the information is very effective and her enthusiasm and humor make me enjoy learning the material. Give this lady a raise or something because she is amazing!! I came into this class not confident that I would do well on the tests and I have an average of 98% on tests because of her.

Ms. St John is probably one of the best professors here at Sonoma State University. She was very thorough and clear with all her assignments. Her slides were engaging and class was never boring. She gave us study guides and helped us prepare for exams way before they happened. Always made herself available to students whenever she was free. Thank you for being a great teacher.
