Testimonials

Wendy is too much fun. Sometimes these issues can be heavy and really require a lot of critical thinking. Wendy is great with showing multiple sides of the story and making you feel like this is something we can make an impact on. She also makes herself very available for help with anything. Thank you Wendy!

"Conservation Biology" student

Wendy is a truly inspirational teacher that shows great passion for, and knowledge of, everything she teaches. I appreciate that Wendy has high (but 100% fair) standards for class behavior and work quality, and will gladly take other courses that she teaches. Wendy is very approachable and quickly responds to questions and/or emails … traits important for a good professor. I feel as if I have learned A LOT from Wendy about Conservation Biology, and I absolutely adore her as a person as well!

Wendy is a great professor she brings a fun energy that is missing from many of my classes. She engages in material and makes it relevant to me.  It seems to me that she really cares about her students and prides herself in her work. I think she has the perfect balance of work and play. All in all great professor!

"Conservation Biology" student

This was a great course. The instructor articulately and enthusiastically presented every lecture using very helpful and well organized PowerPoint presentations. You could tell how much she cared about the subject and the students, and she made every effort to help us understand difficult concepts and to stimulate interest.  She made it very clear that she was willing and able to help if anyone ever needed it and was very effective in this area. The homework and tests were fair, and an excellent effort was made to help students prepare and succeed. Keep up the good teaching!

"Conservation Biology" student

There is never a dull moment with Wendy. She makes the course interesting and challenging at the same time. Wendy, I LOVE that you took us outside a couple of times this semester, for discussion and to find koi fish in the man-made ponds on campus. I love how willing she is to help and how understanding she is about student’s personal lives, i.e. she recognizes that we are human! I will miss this class, it made me love biology! Thanks for everything Wendy!

"Conservation Biology" student

Wendy has been a gem. She has so much enthusiasm for this course and for the environment, and that’s a breath of fresh air.  I feel like she understands and actively listens to the students both in class and in office hours and is very helpful. Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed this course and am super grateful to have had Wendy as a professor in my final semester at SSU.

"Conservation Biology" student

Wendy is an incredible teacher, and I have had an awesome semester in her class. She works hard to make sure that her students retain the information that she provides, and she is very enthusiastic and involved in the classroom. Her passion was inspiring for me.

"Conservation Biology" student

Wendy is enthusiastic and endearing, and really inspires a life of conservation in her course. She is not afraid to be critical of conservation practices, and invites students to pursue a critical viewpoint further. She explains course topics clearly and effectively. Although she goes out of her way to help students, she is not afraid to take control of the classroom if need be.

Wendy St. John is no doubt one of the best professors I’ve had at Sonoma State. Not only is she always prepared for class, she provides ample opportunities for students to ask questions, explore new ideas, and will take the time to explain ideas that are hard to understand. Thank you so much Professor St. John for a wonderful semester!

"Global Environmental Issues" student

WENDY!!!!!!! You are just a huge ball of hells yeah 🙂 I appreciate the time you take to elaborate on the topics and provide students with support and laughs. I learned a lot in this class, and it has solidified the path I’m on. Your reassurance is refreshing and your genuine spirit is adored. Thank you!!

"Global Environmental Issues" student

Professor St.John is one of my favorite professors so far at SSU. This is the 2nd semester I have had her as my professor. She is so understanding inside and out of class and is always encouraging students to come to her office hours. She connects with her students not only through the curriculum but also personally. She is so interesting to listen to and her passion for teaching and protecting the environment is contagious. I have found no weak aspects in her teaching nor in the course.

"Global Environmental Issues" student

Prof. St. John is enthusiastic, well-rounded, and organized. She grades quickly and responds with helpful insight. She’s really excited to teach everyday, and prepares us well for the exams. Awesome class.

"Global Environmental Issues" student

I took this class thinking it was just going to fulfill a GE but I actually really liked it. I may even want to pursue taking a different course related to this field. It was really eye opening to see how the world is affected by us and how we do things, such as litter, drive our gas-filled cars, and how we just keep buying plastic reusable bags and then throwing them out instead of REUSING them, like we should. Anyways Wendy St. John was very passionate about this subject which made it more easier to learn about and focus on for lecture. Overall, I think this class was super fun and I am glad I went out on a whim and took this in the first place.

"Global Environmental Issues" student

I thoroughly enjoyed this class. The materials were interesting. Professor St John is a wonderful person and instructor. She cares about her students and tries her hardest to provide the best education possible for them. She also loves alligators and that’s a huge bonus.

"Global Environmental Issues" student

I loved taking the class with you, I learned so much and your enthusiasm for the topic is infectious! You’re lectures were well organized and the little stretch breaks really helped me recapture my attention (thanks, ADHD). I will be taking more ENSP courses as part of my major so I hope to have you again. Have a lovely summer!

"Global Environmental Issues" student

Wendy is the best Biology teacher I have ever had. Thanks to her I have a better understanding in one of my weakest subjects. She makes class enjoyable and interesting because she clearly has a passion for what she is talking about. Her energy rubs off on you and I love her to bits.

"Introduction to Biology" student

Wendy St. John was an amazing teacher, she was able to make the class really entertaining, especially for a lecture class. People were always able to interject their thoughts about what was being said and would be greeted with a well thought out answer. This class was made simple by how thorough she was and her homework assignments really reinforced what happened in class. I would love to have this teacher in the future.

"Introduction to Biology" student

Wendy St. John is an amazing professor who clearly has passion for Biology and enthusiasm for teaching. I was recommended for this course by another student and will recommend this course to others!

"Introduction to Biology" student

Sonoma State and the Biology department are so lucky to have Wendy St. John on their bill. She is so full of zest for not only Biology, but for life! And it is so infectious! More often than not did I find myself cracking up at Wendy’s loony demeanor and I wish more people could be like this! Personally, I am not a science girl and did not thrive in this biology curriculum. But, it was so much greater with Wendy as my teacher. Love her. All the raises to her!!!

"Introduction to Biology" student

Professor St. John is probably my favorite professor. I look forward to going to class because of her. She is the nicest, most understanding professor I have had. The way she displays the information is very effective and her enthusiasm and humor make me enjoy learning the material. Give this lady a raise or something because she is amazing!! I came into this class not confident that I would do well on the tests and I have an average of 98% on tests because of her.

"Introduction to Biology" student

Ms. St John is probably one of the best professors here at Sonoma State University. She was very thorough and clear with all her assignments. Her slides were engaging and class was never boring. She gave us study guides and helped us prepare for exams way before they happened. Always made herself available to students whenever she was free. Thank you for being a great teacher.

"Professional Preparation" student

Wendy is always a rockstar! She is affable, technologically savvy, highly organized and always makes
herself available to help.

"Professional Preparation" student

Professor St. John is by far one of the most approachable and knowledgeable teachers I have had in my school career. She is always excited to talk about all things environment and her lectures are very easy to follow and successfully take notes on, whether you use the power point provided, or taking own notes. She constantly promotes things that we can do as citizens that will help aspects of our environment and the world we live in. She never influences her teachings on her own opinions and respects what everyone has to say. I believe that my favorite teaching aspect about her is her enthusiasm and respect for other’s views.

"Global Environmental Issues" student

I loved professor St. John, she has such a great energy and enthusiasm every class. She lies out our subject matter each week and reinforces it with fun and engaging activities in class and for homework. She made me want to go to class and want to get more involved with the environment which is great quality to have as an educator, and she’s just a really nice lady too.

"Global Environmental Issues" student

Thank You. You’ve actually caught my interests in science, which I never felt smart enough for. You’re also one of the most understanding and empathetic professors I’ve had, which helped with my severe anxiety disorder.

"Introduction to Biology" student

I am literally obsessed with this professor!! I have never before had a professor that genuinely wants every single one of her students to succeed. She creates such a fun and easy-going classroom environment and does an incredible job of making everyone feel comfortable in asking questions without feeling stupid. She is willing to admit her mistakes but has so much knowledge of all topics she goes over and when a question arises even if she doesn’t have an immediate answer she will work to figure it out. She gives enough assignments that if you do poorly on one or on tests its not the end of the world and the test corrections aren’t just nice for that extra grade boost but it gives you the opportunity to actually learn from your mistakes. This is genuinely the first time in a GE course that I have felt like I have learned information that I will retain. We NEED more teachers like Wendy St. John!! Wendy St. John for president!!

"Global Environmental Issues" student

I think the course was a very well rounded class. I learned a lot and it was a joy to go to. It wasn’t a miserable class at all and Wendy is amazing she is great and easy to talk to and isn’t intimidating when it comes to asking any questions on homework assignments. Cool class and teacher is all I can say.

This is the best professor I’ve had at SSU so far. She has a style of teaching that is very easy to learn. She makes class interesting at all times, and is funny which keeps students focused. Best professor ever.

"Conservation Biology" student

Wendy is one of, if not the best teacher I have had at this school. What makes Wendy stand out is not just her enthusiasm for the material, but that she works with us to make sure we all understand the material. She by no means is an ‘easy’ teacher, or overbearing, but one that truly wants to share her knowledge and get her students involved as much as possible.

"Conservation Biology" student

Wendy St. John is the ideal professor! She is intelligent, well informed, humorous, communicates effectively, and has exemplary time management skills. Additionally, the course is a well structured course, we are learning about conservation topics in an order that makes sense and enables students to think critically about important issues.

"Conservation Biology" student

I found this class very enjoyable, and informative. The instructor shows great enthusiasm for the subject being taught. The instructor also appears to want all the students to be successful in the class and uses different lecturing techniques to help all kinds of learners be successful.

"Introduction to Biology" student

I had Ms. St. John as my professor for Bio 115 and she was amazing. Everyday she came to class with a smile on her face and she was always excited to be there making it a enjoyable class to be in. As a freshman, it was refreshing I felt welcomed, and it felt safe. She not only prepared us for exams she gave us homework that pertained to our exams making it easy for me to learn. Over all she’s great and would take a class with her again and recommend her class to everyone.

"Introduction to Biology" student

Professor St. John made my first college science course not intimidating at all! She managed to make an 8 am enjoyable and broke down all of the information so clearly that I was able to succeed in this class. I thoroughly recommend her to anyone who is looking to take Biology 115.
